5 Diet Tips For Fat Loss: Part 1

October 19, 2010

Hey Guys,

I wanted to take some time and hook you up with a few diet tips that will help you maintain or even lose fat without starving yourself to death.  So over the next few days I will  be sending out the other tips in a seperate blog post.  (see that way it keeps you coming back)

So lets get started:

First I need to explain to you how I look at, and promote diets to my clients.  I never promote the “starve yourself to death” option.  Many people think this is a great way to drop a few pounds, when in reality it defeats the purpous of burning fat.

So what is the best diet out there.  Is it the Southbeach diet?  How about Atkins?  Cabbage Soup?  or anyother diet with some kind of fancy name to it?

I believe the best diet plan to follow whether it is to lose weight or just to maintain health is …………are you ready………  BALANCED DIET!

Thats right people.  The best diet plan is simply to put a good balance of, good for you fruits, vegtables, and lean proteins.

Now if you want to lose weight or at least stop gaining this is my number #1 tip:   Portion Control

Portion Control

I find this to be the biggest key to weight loss.  Stop eating more than you need!  About 10 years ago my wife and I went on  a trip to Europe.  We went with the company that I was working with at the time, so many of the dinners that we had were as a big group from the company.  These meals were usually catered, so all the portion sizes were pre-determined.  I remember feeling like I was going to starve to death on such little food.  (This was before I became health concious and on a mission to blast all excess fat from the universe).  I remember soon after the meal actually feeling satisfied on the protion that was given to me.  I mean its not like I was hungry the rest of the evening or anything.

You see most of the time when we eat out here in America the servings that we get are usually twice what we actually need from a nutritional standpoint.  That my friends is the first problem.  Second of all to make it worse….most of us were taught from the time we were itty-bitty that we needed to clean our plate, because there were little children all over the world that were going hungry and we should be grateful for the food that we have.  Still today I believe we should be grateful for the food we have but and we should waste food, but not to the extent of over eating.  Some of us were even taught that if we didnt ask and have seconds, then it was an insult to the cook.  So here is a tip inside a tip:  When you are eating out, and when you place your order, ask your server to please bring a to-go box out with the meal.  Then go ahead and seperate half of it into the to-go box.  This strategy works much better then just telling yourself you are only going to eat half of it,  and then you will take whats left home.

So what is a good way to judge portion size?  Here is an old trick of the trade.  Flatten out your hand.  The palm is a good measurment of the size portion of protein source you should have.  For instance, a piece of chicken, steak, or fish.  Next make a fist and this is a great indication of the perfect serving of vegtables.  Finally if you are adding fat to the diet no more than the tip of your thumb (bummer huh…lol).  Oh and if your hands are this big, then use someone elses.

This one tip alone, if everyone would follow it, would pretty much in my opinion solve the obesity problem we are facing in this country.  As far as the non-obese people, we would see alot more tight bellies, butts, thighs and arms!  Hey its ok to look your very best!

I hope you find this tip helpful.  Be on the lookout for part two in this series due out in just a couple of days!

Chad, good advise! For the last couple of years since I’ve become health conscious, I always share a meal with someone. It truly does work to watch your portions. Thanks for your info, I enjoy seeing what’s next!

Hi Chad! I have been doing what you wrote about these past week and this week. I have eliminated any kind of soda pop. I always had diet, but gave it up. I am watching how much I eat and not having anything after supper. Don’t you hate those commercials about food. It is like this little voice saying you need to go and have a piece of that cake or apple dumplings (which I made tonight). So far I have lost about 12 pounds. People never know I have lost until I get at least twenty down the drain. Anyway, you are right on the point if folks really want to lose. Thanks for the good information. You are doing great!!

@ Shelly- Thats awesome, it just goes to show that the myth of “eating for 2″ Is not a smart way to approach pregnancy..

@ Mr Ryburn- Keep me posted on your continued success.
